about

Story of a song: "I just miss you"

Lovers of Veeresh will enjoy this song. It's one of the few songs with him, that you can't find in this version on the Humaniversity Sound CD's.
I had the honor to produce this song with Veeresh at "Osho Leela Center" during my time in the UK. I had just moved to Dorset, England because I had fallen in Love with the place and a beautiful English woman. I had moved my studio there, and Tarisha, Maneesh, Rakendra and I had started to work together on "The Leela Groove" CD.
So one day, during a therapy workshop of the Humaniversity with Veeresh I was working on a new song in the studio and someone from the staff came to ask, if I would like to produce a song to some beautiful lyrics that he had written. It was a love song for Osho called "I just miss you".
I was yet quite young and very excited, as you can imagine - working with a legend like Veeresh got my heart beating!
However - the general mood of my new song was fitting nicely with Veereshs lyrics. So I kept going to work on the structure sound and arrangement, but I also felt quite shy and insecure to "deliver" a song for him. The next thing I wrote was the catchy shakuhachi hook. It was the 90's and sampling was used extensively.
Some of my friends came by to see how it was going and we created the melody of the refrain "I just miss you", which my girlfriend Daksha sang beautifully. Now was still missing a bridge or second part, to make the song more interesting. Tarisha's lover Samodha came by with his guitar, and he found some nice chords to make the song complete and he also played a little guitar solo.
We finally started recording Veeresh's voice. I knew a lot of the Humanivesity music already, and as a sound engineer I was very interested to know, how the technicians in the studio processed Veeresh's Voice, because it sounded so deep, full and rich.
To my great surprise, nothing specially was needed at all. Just a good microphone and a bit of compression (a simple sound processor, to even out big volume differences). His Voice was so rich and easy to record! When I heard it on tape for the first time, I was completely amazed! Besides that, Veeresh was such a humble man and easy to work with, yet he was very clear and dedicated to his art and work.
In the end - after a few days, I was the proud producer of another wonderful and touching Humaniversity songs
Nevertheless. our version didn't make it on to the next Humaniversity Sound CD's, because Veeresh was not happy with the mix, and I was already on tour again, and could fix it in time.
I still think, the mix is pretty good, and Veeresh's performance was deeply emotional and touching, as is Dakshas voice - but judge for yourself.
To me it was a strong moment in my life. Exciting, challenging and transformative on many levels and full of great memories. If you like to see and experience a full on meditative, alternative, celebrative, transformative, alive community, I absolutely recommend to visit this place: osholeela.uk
